Sure, Kregel & Company CPA can do your taxes, manage your finances. It’s the tools they use, their personal approach and who they do it for that befits their tagline of “a refreshing CPA firm.” They use the best technological accounting tools, hosted in the cloud, so information is always available in real time. Kregel’s accountants can talk with clients from anywhere. The stresses of the accounting part of a business are reduced for the client. Kregel serves socially conscious, triple bottom line businesses, real estate companies and professional services providers.
“The past several months, we've been taking steps toward building a stronger connection to our customers and to increase our presence outside our little office in the suburbs of Philadelphia,” explained Customer Caretaker and Founder Scott Kregel. “We've seen how our cloud based accounting solutions and anytime, anywhere ability to see our customer’s books in real time gives us meaningful insight into how things are going for our customers this year. We get pretty excited when we take steps to refresh ourselves and our delivery of solutions for clients.”
Scott started the company six years ago. They handle accounting, bookkeeping, payroll, tax planning and tax compliance, business entity and processing consulting, and creative financial solutions, with the goal of creating a positive experience for clients. The company is one of the few accounting firms in Philadelphia that is a certified Xero Gold Partner helping socially conscious, real estate, and professional service businesses. They are also a B Corp business.
“I was looking to come alongside small business owners and support their efforts for their business and help them reach personal goals,” explained Scott. “Usually, a small business has maybe a paid employee, a broken process, or a confusing situation. We connect and come alongside them, try to provide solutions, ease their mind, give them opportunity, and hopefully a little inspiration along the way.
“Certainly we like socially conscious, triple bottom line focus companies. We definitely see most newer businesses have a social consciousness behind what they do and why they do it. We connect well with the ideals they have. It becomes a natural nice connection, especially, when we’re dealing with their finances, taxes and income, to have common ground. It adds perspective to the relationship, which is good for both parties.”

Xero is at the center of the time-saving cloud-based financial tools.
“Xero allows for multiple people to carry out key functions that make up a company’s accounting department,” explains Scott in a video on the web site. “Xero is your online general ledger accounting system. This platform ensures that your business maintains a full, double entry set of books and provides meaningful financial reports at the click of a few buttons. There are other online software tools that are easy to use. These can easily be integrated to Xero, so that each person can carry out their responsibilities, using software specifically designed for their purpose.”
First, the bank and credit card accounts are connected to Xero. The business’ work flow is then mapped out to Invoicing (Harvest Software), Expense Management (Receipt Bank), Payroll (ADP Gusto) and Document and File Storage (Dropbox). Kregel & Company doesn’t hide behind the technology. They can login to a client’s account to provide the proper and immediate consultation.
“Systems don’t run by themselves,” says Scott in the video. “There are real live people behind them. When you work in a collaborative manner with anywhere, anytime accessibility, we can break down so many barriers and provide sound, real time business advice.”
The web site has a Resource Library with quick read documents in plain language. They also walk the talk in the way employees are treated.
“We take care of our employees, are good to all our stakeholders, are generous with our profits, and are mindful about our use of resources,” said Scott.
Since inception, the firm has donated thousands of dollars to Joni and Friends, which works on ways people with mental and physical disabilities can be included and assimilated into society, an organization that manages 11 orphanages in East Africa, providing education for 80-100 children in each home, as well as supporting micro-lending through Kiva.
“I have an active faith background and upbringing, said Scott, who grew up in Michigan. “I have the belief we are stewards of what we are blessed with. Everything we have is a blessing. Our role is to pass that blessing on to others.”
He earned a bachelor's degree in accounting from Taylor University in Indiana, and a Master’s in Taxation from Villanova University.
Three years ago, the firm joined SBN.
“We had some customers that were part of the network,” said Scott. “We felt this is a tribe we needed to connect with. If we can connect with other like-minded businesses, we’re all better off.”
