Friends Center offers green Center City meeting and event space to the greater Philadelphia business and non-profit community, as well as provides office space for over 40 non-profit Quaker and non-Quaker organizations. Friends Center is a hub for Quaker activity in Philadelphia and around the world, promoting peace, social equality, and stewardship of the earth, and is home to diverse groups working for peace and justice. The American Friends Service Committee, an international aid and development organization- recipient of the Novel Peace Prize on behalf of Quakers worldwide- was founded here in 1917. The Friends Center campus includes an 1856 Quaker meetinghouse that is on the National Historic Register and a 1970s office building renovated to the LEED Platinum standard, including geothermal heating/cooling, green roof, and active stormwater management.
